advocacy ideas for your advocacy lifestyle

helloooo everyone!!! so since project:1200 loves to advocate and empower, this little site is just for that!

the following is a list of ideas to do by yourself, with your friends, or with Project:1200 to spread the word. and hey, just because its not on the list, doesnt mean it cant be done. please feel free to post your own advocacy ideas on this page! thanks for everything!!!

  • Parked car with signs on top
  • messages on overpasses (like the "welcome home elder so-and-so signs)
  • Bat Signals
  • Faxing the legislature
  • flood the Trax with matching t-shirts and flyers
  • signs to put in your car window with a message
  • paint the snow with a message at night
  • post flyers and signs in bathrooms (in stalls and in front of urinals)
  • texting legislatures cell phones
  • video interviews
  • car caravan (like a funeral procession - every car has a sign on it - drivin through the city!)
  • drop dead day
  • at your local library, put fake book covers on books, or bookmarks inside
  • dress up like your favorite tobacco executive and label your briefcase to match and walk around handing flyers that say "Big Tobacco would like to thank the legislature" and "Big Tobacco's Bed Buddy of the month goes to Orrin Hatch (or whoever) for accepting $X.xx for choosing them instead of utah's citizens
  • lawn signs! get enough and line a well used street
  • chalked body outline with caution tape at bus stops, convenience stores, or grocery stores
  • get the "you parked in this section" in mall parking lots, and write facts and stats on the back of them
  • place signs and such in the local hotels continental breakfast microwave, flowers, etc.
  • place signs in random locations in your local grocery store
  • create coupon look-alikes for free starbucks or ice cream or something and fold and seal them with a "coupon void if seal broken" and on the inside have a saying along the lines of... "wouldnt a free cup of coffee be nice? sorry. but big tobacco gives free cash to our politicians to choose them not you."
  • traditional rally/demonstration/peaceful protest with flyers and signs

please let me know if you have more ideas! want to hear about them! and always ALWAYS give resources to get more involved. its never enough to just say "shame on you big tobacco and politicians." that doesnt educate or provide more options. let people know that there are ways to use their newfound knowledge. urge people to get active, and to check out more. even if its nothing more than a website or two...
